- What's in the Vitamin C Serum?
That's a good question! Our Vitamin C serum is 100% natural and full of really good things. Let's dive into the key ingredients: Aloe : a great moisturizer and anti-inflammatory Ethyl Ascorbic Acid (which is the vitamin C): this is a very stable form of vitamin C and is an anti-oxidant, collagen booster and skin brightener. Niacinamide: Also known as vitamin B3. It is wrinkle-smoothing, fades brown spots (photo damaged skin), provides a healthy skin barrier & better hydration. Natural AHA Fruit Mix: Bilberry extract, Sugar Cane extract, Orange Fruit extract, Lemon Fruit extract and Sugar Maple extract: This mix of extracts provides gentle AHAs, resulting in exfoliating, cellular renewal, moisturizing and skin brightening. These naturally occurring AHAs are gentle on the skin and help to reveal a rejuvenated complexion. Hyaluronic Acid: Much to say about this super-hydrating ingredient - and you can read more in the blog post Anti-Wrinkle and Hyaluronic Acid. Suffice it to say that it helps to soothe, refresh and hydrate the surface of the skin. Glycerin: Natural plant based glycerin is a humectant, attracting water to itself. You've probably seen tiny water droplets appear on a bar of glycerin soap when the humidity is high in your bathroom. Glycerin benefits your skin by boosting skin hydration, and helps to provide a better skin barrier function. Cucumber Extract: Helps to heal and soothe irritated skin. Lizabee Skincare's Vitamin C Serum is effective in brightening a dull, flakey complexion. The anti-wrinkle formula enriched with these natural alpha hydroxy acids (AHA fruit mix) gently exfoliate and reveal smooth soft skin.
- Anti-Wrinkle and Hyaluronic Acid
You already have a pretty good idea about the basics of hyaluronic acid. It has made its way into the ingredient list of nearly every skincare product and makeup, too. It has been postulated it can bind up to 1000X its weight in water but how does this translate into anything meaningful for the skincare you put on your face? If this stuff is so amazing, why are negative comments circulating around the net that HA causes irritation? Keep reading. We'll answer that. There are various molecular weights of hyaluronic acid. Molecular weight refers to the size of the molecule. The following molecular weights are provided by Lotioncrafter. These can range between High Molecular Weight (HMW) 1.0 - 1.5 million daltons right down to ultra low molecular weight (ULMW) less than 6,000 daltons. According to simpleskincarescience the hyaluronic acid you want to be using should be between 80,000 and 1,000,000 daltons. They have identified this as the sweet spot. Anything lower might cause inflammation and anything higher really isn't increasing its efficacy. Wait. HA might cause inflammation? According to preservskincare.com HMW (high molecular weight) HA displays anti-inflammatory activity (good thing), whereas low molecular weight HA can induce inflammation. Why is that? The lower molecular weights are smaller and can reach the deeper layers of the skin. Low molecular weight HA can trigger an immune response to have a pro-inflammatory reaction, a sign that the body is attempting to protect itself from a "foreign invader". Lizabee Skincare's Hyaluronic Acid Serum is a 1% concentration of 99% pure Hyaluronic Acid. It has a molecular weight between 800,000 and 1.5 million daltons. This will provide a plumping effect and will sit ON the surface of the skin. It does not penetrate into the lower levels of your skin as the molecule is too big. Because it draws water to itself, it is important to apply HA to damp skin. Layer other serums and finish up with a good moisturizing day or night cream.
- Anti-Ageing. The term bugs me.
I started this post on a bit of a rant - but after checking out Merriam-Webster for a clear understanding of the term "anti", I softened...a bit. There are two distinct meanings: 1. serving to prevent, cure or alleviate 2. combating or defending against. I get the strong feeling that most of us have been led to hope/believe that consistently using proper skincare products, devices and procedures would provide us with the #1 meaning...to prevent or cure ageing. Well, not to be too blunt here, but if you are not ageing, you are dead! Literally, you will no longer exist. We start to "age" the moment we are born. We eventually blossom in our most gorgeous 20's & 30's and then slowly start to fade. Sad, but true! So that leaves us with the #2 meaning - which is to combat or defend against. I can fully support this meaning. Combating and defending against "ageing" is more than just applying a skin cream or having some fillers added to your face. Fact is, we age. But, we can slow down the appearance of this experience. Anti-wrinkle is a good term, and where skincare can certainly help - along with facial devices with LLLT and microcurrent to stimulate the collagen production. With nearly 7 decades of life, I resist the idea of "old" - in fact, the term "elderly" and "old" equally irritate me. I have a lot of years (and am aiming for 120 years), but I take care of myself with a gym workout 3x a week (cardio & weights), eat a keto-ish diet (off keto and now in maintenance mode) and for the first time since 1973, recently bought a pair of cord flare pants. I do facial exercises sporatically which would probably be extremely effective if I were more consistent. To really help the facial muscles tone up, try talking more. Seriously. Sing - that works the muscles a LOT. And don't forget to smile. It lifts the corners of the mouth and if you work at it, raises your cheeks up too. The bonus to all this, is that you look much less grumpy - the "old person curse". I don't think most of of intend to look so harsh, but if you take a look in a mirror with your "normal face", you may be quite surprised at what looks back at you. It's not all about wrinkles or sag. It's about being energetic, healthy, being a giving person - materially and of yourself, and having an attitude that you "love the skin you're in".
